Archiving Activism

The Archiving Activism Project

Protest Scene

Although minority activism shaped the racial geography of Austin and its educational institutions, there is no central and accessible space on or offline where students, community members, or researchers can access this information.

Protest Scene

Archiving Activism is a digital humanities project stewarded by Dr. Ashanté Reese and Dr. Ashley M. Farmer that seeks to make this information publicly accessible and usable.

What the Project Includes:

  1. Documenting & Digitizing: Historical documents related to minority student activism for an interactive website.
We are seeking planning support for this. →
  2. Integrating into Student Learning: Bringing this knowledge into student service learning projects to ensure education is informed by activism.
  3. Freedom Schools: Developing spaces to disseminate this history to the wider Austin community.

The ultimate goal of this project is to create an accessible, open-access digital archive of student activism in Austin. This archive will support research symposia, publications, curriculum, course development, and student service learning.
